AVI has a 13 year history using INDUSTRIOS so when it came time to improve their business processes they looked to the strengths of the latest INDUSTRIOS version. With new inventory analysis functionality, product categorization capabilities, reporting, user defined fields and greater depth in all areas, AVI has enjoyed time savings while implementing better processes that benefit them in the area of quality certifications and inventory management.

Sage Rebranding Announced

The most talked about moment at the conference was a keynote announcement made to the community.  Sage shared their branding strategy with the group that plans to eliminate the use of product specific brands and messaging.  They plan on promoting the Sage brand to increase overall brand recognition in North America.  Following the success of their rebranding in other countries, most products will be grouped into families unified by a number, such as Sage 50 accounting and Sage 50 construction. Product names like Accpac, or PFW will be dropped to facilitate customer identification with the larger Sage brand. Customer and partners alike will benefit from the increased awareness and recognition that this strategy can bring. 

PFW The Road Ahead

Sage shared their PFW Roadmap so you can expect program fixes each quarter from now through 2012 and in Q4/Q1 of 2011 watch for these changes:

• Ability to print and post voucher payments and handwritten checks by vendor name as well as by the vendor key
• Sage PFW Intelligence – FRx replacement plus added business intelligence within Excel. On plan customers will receive a free module offer for Sage Business Intelligence

Dan Challenge Results in the National Harbor 5k Fun Run and Walk

Since we were the sponsor of the National Harbor 5k Fun Run and Walk, we decided to have a little fun with IndustriOS’ own Dan Court.  We issued a challenge to participants to beat Dan’s time for a chance to win $100 for themselves and $100 for their favorite charity.   A number of participants stepped up to challenge Dan, and while Dan ran a good race finishing in 20th place out of 242 runners, two challengers both from SGS Technology Group placed 3rd and 5th. After a draw for the winning challenger Eric Anderson received $100, which he generously split with his co-worker, and the Huntsman Cancer Foundation received a $100 donation for Eric’s efforts.  A great race and I hear the challenge is on for next year…Dan’s already started training.

Quick Response Codes (also referred to as QR Codes) are a highly-specialized barcode developed nearly ten years ago inJapan, which are now becoming increasingly popular inNorth America.  Its appearance is a square, consisting of small black cubes arranged in various patterns upon a white background.  Unlike traditional barcodes, QR Codes are smaller and present the opportunity of containing and displaying vast amounts of information such as contact records, website links and extensive product-specific data.  QR Codes can be scanned by QR barcode readers, and select camera phones.

The versatility of QR Codes provides customers the ideal opportunity to streamline product tracking and data collection, especially when applied to inventory.  Product-specific data can be tracked throughout the entire manufacturing process using QR Codes including item number, quantity, location, unit of measure (UOM), bin, and serial/lot numbers.  Also, the small QR Code label size can be applied to smaller inventory parts, unlike the Standard Code 3of9 which requires larger labels containing the same information.  All it takes is a quick barcode scan and detailed data is retrieved and tracked within seconds.

During the Magic Software Users Conference, attendees had an opportunity to see and learn from the innovations Renato and the IndustriOS team developed in the session “The Business Side of Software: INDUSTRIOS Software – an ISV using Magic Software Technology.” Renato showcased the dynamic INDUSTRIOS Product Configurator. It enables customer driven requirements such as different sizes, colors, add-ons, shipping options, etc. to be entered into a quote that are then dynamically evaluated during the construction of a configured order to produce a bill of material and router specifically designed to build the customer’s end product. In a sample application, Renato demonstrated how over 4,000 user defined expressions were dynamically and quickly evaluated during the construction of a configured order. Another example of this dynamic team’s work included the development of an External Systems Interface (ESI), architected to allow their product to read/write from/to an external system and handle any data transformations or mappings as the data flowed through. The ESI is the tool that enables their manufacturing solution INDUSTRIOS to integrate seamlessly with Sage ERP Accpac, and potentially any other financial package. And finally, Renato demonstrated the techniques developed to quickly update or design screens without the need to change core programs. The result is speed and simplicity of development, streamlined QA and the reliability of core features. Having this type of development capability is critical when competing in the highly competitive ERP market space where being first to market is essential to building market share. It was an informative session that certainly showcased the technical abilities and ingenuity of the IndustriOS team.

Creativity, technical know-how and uniPaaS were the key ingredients that led IndustriOS to receive the Magic Software Enterprises’ INNOVATION AWARD and to being a competitive force in the ERP market now and into the future.

I began a mental run through of our customers, at least those I was able to remember,  and watched the landscape unfold as I sought out other examples of INDUSTRIOS customers in my community.  It wasn’t long before I passed a yard tidily enclosed by a black chain link fence the handiwork of Leone Fence, Inc.  That same yard contained an in ground pool  with  a safety pool cover that could be the work of HPI,  a local manufacturer of protective covers and another customer.   To confirm that I would have had to knock  on the door so I decided to simply acknowledge that one as a possibility.  As I cycled on passed the local hockey arena where I’ve attended many a junior hockey game over the last 14 years, I remembered the ever faithful Zamboni clearing the ice between games, a product of our customer Frank Zamboni Co. Ltd.  As I neared the office, a glimpse of the IMAX theatre playing the latest Disney creation was another reminder of our widespread and every day impact. Of course as I blast passed Petsmart, where I’ve purchased 100′s of pounds of dog food over the years, and where my 85lb dog goes trembling every 2 months for a shave, I’m reminded of our customer North American Pet Products Inc. and their myriad of pet products gracing the shelves, which I confirmed later online, don’t you just love the internet.  

As I neared the office, I was reminded once again of our local impact as I passed  Entripy, our supplier of pens, shirts, shoe shine kits and other tradeshow paraphernalia, and of course Somerville Graphics, printer of all things INDUSTRIOS and our office neighbor. I arrived safely at the office.

Wow, I was amazed how INDUSTRIOS has quietly infiltrated the lives of those around me.  It’s interesting that I’ve traveled these roads and passed these businesses for years on my daily journey to and from work but never realized the impact our business and product had on the world.  As I sat down to my Timothy’s Coffee, love their decaf,  and looked out my picture window, gracefully adorned with Sun Glow roller blinds, I was once again reminded about our impact on the world, and it looks mighty fine.   Indeed, INDUSTRIOS and Sage ERP Accpac are both ingrained in the fabric of our lives and I have a bike route as a testament to that.  Wonder what I’ll think about on another journey.
